Greencards Return For Woodford & Other Dates.
Wednesday, November 07, 2007
The Greencards, having last played here during the 2006 Byron Bay
Blues Festival, return to Australian shores on the back of their 1st ARIA
nomination, to play 3 exclusive dates and bring their critically acclaimed
album Viridian to fans in late December and early January.
"The ARIA nomination this year for 'Viridian' was a tremendous boost for the
band and an absolute honour. To be recognised back home by our peers and the
industry means allot to us," Kym Warner said. "It's been a busy year but we
are excited to be coming home off the back of that to play shows in Sydney,
Central Coast and Woodford Folk Festival, and of course it's a bonus to get
some down time and spend Christmas with our friends and family - now that's
something we don't get to do too often!"
The band, made up of two Australian's, Carol Young & Kym Warner, and one
Brit, Eamon McLoughlin, all grew up in households full of honest American
roots music, from Merle, Lefty, Ricky, Dolly and Loretta with their training
grounds being jam sessions at different ends of the planet. Finally meeting in a recording
session in Austin the chemistry was immediate and after winning the 2006
Americana Music Association's
New/Emerging Artist of the Year Award at the
historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, The Greencards place as the new
darlings of Americana was cemented.
Viridian is The Greencards 3rd album and the follow up to the absorbing
2005 release Weather And Water which was strong enough to see them win
their support slot on the Bob Dylan & Willie Nelson tour. Not to be out done
they have also toured with Rosanne Cash, Robert Earl Keen and Shawn Colvin.
