Greencards & AIM Artists Nominated For Grammys
Sunday, December 09, 2007
As The Greencards prepare to head home to Australia for shows in late December and early January the band finished year on a high by receiving a nomination for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards in the Best Country Instrumental category for the Kym Warner penned ‘Mucky The Duck’.

The Greencards’ latest album Viridian debuted at #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart and was nominated for Best Country Album at the ARIAS which followed the band taking out the 2006 Americana Music Associations New/Emerging Artist of the Year Award.

"What an incredible honour to be recognised by our peers, we cannot believe it,” Kym Warner said. “When I first wrote this tune I was merely hoping it would be something my band mates would want to play…but a Grammy nomination for Best Country Instrumental definitely exceeds my expectations and it’s a great way to end the year."

The Greencards shows in Australia prior to the Grammys are:

December 29 – January 1– Woodford Folk Festival
January 3 – The Basement – Sydney - 02 9251 279 or http://www.thebasement.com.au/
January 4 – Lizotte’s, Kincumber, 8pm – 02 4368 2017 or www.lizottes.com.au/live/

And, in a first for Aim Records from Byron Bay in NSW – the label owned by Bluesfest director Peter Noble – two of its artists have been nominated for Grammys.

Cubanismo have earned a nomination for Best Tropical Latin Album for their release, Greetings From Havana (Aim Records). While Terrance Simien & The Zydeco Experience have picked up a nomination for Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album for their Live! Worldwide (Aim Records) release.

Both these albums are distributed in Australia by Aim’s local distributor The Planet Company / MGM.

Aim Records CEO, and Bluesfest director Peter Noble said, “We believe this is history in the making – the first time any absolutely independent Australian record label has been nominated for a single Grammy, let alone two! It’s certainly a first for an Australian blues and roots focused label.”

The 50th annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 10, 2008.
