Jackie Orszaczky R.I.P.

Sydney music legend, bass guitarist Jackie Orszaczky passed away on Sunday February 3 following a long battle with cancer. He leaves behind his partner Tina, their daughter Mia and his first daughter, Anna.
Born in Hungary in 1948 Orszaczky studied classical piano and violin. He found fame as a member of experimental rock band Syrius where he toured Eastern and Western Europe as well as Australia.
Orszaczky relocated to Australia in 1974 and on his arrival played bass with Bakery and later led Marcia Hines’ band. He released his first solo album Beramiada in 1975.
In the ‘80s, Orszaczky’s band Jump Back Jack made regular club appearances and opened shows for Stevie Wonder and Al Jarreau.
Orszaczky worked with a diverse collection of artists including The Whitlams, You Am I, Leonardo’s Bride, Hoodoo Gurus, and Grinspoon.
In 1994 Orszaczky formed the Grandmasters with Tina Harrod as lead vocalist, touring Europe and recording. Deep Down & Out by the Orszaczky Budget Orchestra, a double contained studio recordings and other favourites from their live repertoire. Their most recent recordings included Harrod’s Shacked Up In Paradise, Jackie Orszaczky & Tibor Tatrai’s Deserted Downtown and Family Lore by Jackie Orszaczky & the Grand Masters (coinciding with an ABC radio special on Orszaczky.
A new trio album, featuring Dave Symes and Hamish Stuart, will be released on Vitamin Records later this year.
There will be a private funeral for the family but a wake will be held on Sunday, 10 February at the Harold Park Hotel, Wigram Rd, Glebe from 4pm.
A tribute concert is being planned.
