Triffids Top Indie Albums
Monday, July 14, 2008
By Jeff Jenkins

It’s been a big year for The Triffids. Induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame, gigs at the Sydney Festival, a Top 10 placing for Born Sandy Devotional in The Age’s list of the best Australian albums of all time, more wonderful reissues, and Jonathan Alley working on the David McComb documentary, Love In Bright Landscapes. And now Born Sandy Devotional has been declared the greatest Australian independent album of all time. AIR – the Australian Independent Record Labels Association – came up with a list of 50 indie albums after consulting industry figures, and then the public voted for their favourites. Not one female singer made The Age list, while one female-fronted band made the AIR Top 50 – Magic Dirt’s Friends In Danger at number 30. The full list can be found at www.air.org.au. Here’s the Top 5:

1. The Triffids – Born Sandy Devotional
2. The Saints – (I’m) Stranded
3. Hoodoo Gurus – Stoneage Romeos
4. The Go-Betweens – Liberty Belle And The Black Diamond Express
5. Midnight Oil – Midnight Oil
