A self-taught musician, Jesse Younan started playing the guitar when he was six years old. His early memories of playing the guitar involved recording music from the radio and then playing along with his favourite bands. His playing has been compared to guitarists such as Bert Jansch, Davey Graham and John Martyn. However, Jesse Younan’s sound is unique - a gorgeous fusion of folk, blues and the music he heard as a young boy. A gifted lyricist, his heartbreaking songs of love and struggle are carried by a distinctive, deep voice full of emotion.
Jesse said of his music “I don’t sound like Robert Johnson, but the way I approach music is similar to the blues. Both have honesty and rawness at the root of them. It’s about making the soul audible."
Jesse was very proud of his recent album 'A Good Day for a Migraine' which he completed just days before being diagnosed with leukemia. He was ill while recording the album (he also finished writing some of the songs during this period) - although no one was aware of how seriously ill he was and just how much he had pushed himself. Jesse was determined to finish the album and have it released. Well known as a spellbinding performer, he was very much looking forward to 'trying the songs out' on live audiences.
The album has received outstanding critical acclaim and an ever increasing number of fans who have been deeply moved by his unique, beautiful singing and songwriting. Jesse was very appreciative of the many messages of support from fans and the reaction to his album.
Music was central to Jesse's life. His experiences were channeled through guitar and voice - his music remains as a gift to us all.
